OneMusic New Zealand Dance Schools and Instructors Music Licence Consultation

OneMusic New Zealand aims to provide fair and reasonable fee structures for both the businesses who use music and creators behind it.  As part of this commitment OneMusic has been reviewing how music licensing currently operates for dance schools and dance instructors and has released the following proposal document for feedback from the sector. The goal is to ensure any future framework is fair, sustainable, and reflective of the unique needs of dance organisations, educators, choreographers, and performers.

Your voice matters. This is an opportunity to share your experiences, concerns, and ideas to help shape a licensing solution that works for everyone involved.

Key Features of Proposal:

  • Changing the Music in Dance Class fee calculations to be based on the average weekly number of classes held across all locations operated by a Dance School or Dance Instructor.

  • Expanding the Music in Dance Class pricing tiers to better reflect usage when applied to a business (rather than each location).

  • To include the rights to use music on websites at no extra charge.

  • Changing Music Used in Dance School Events to be included in this new licence, rather than two separate Event Licences from APRA and Recorded Music .

  • To consolidate the current Annual and Single Use Domestic Use Video Music Licences into this new licence.

Following consideration of all feedback OneMusic intends to develop and launch the revised OneMusic Dance Schools and Instructors Music Licence from November 2025.

To have your say on the consultation document please either provide your feedback via this form (INSERT)

PLEASE NOTE: OneMusic New Zealand has kindly held the consultation period open beyond the original deadline indicated in the proposal document.
