Dancing Earth

Walking at the Edge of Water was a world premiere over five years in the making. It was a drawing together of tribal stories collected from across the United States by indigenous choreographer Rulan Tangen, artistic director of Dancing Earth – surprisingly one of very few contemporary Native American dance companies – based in Turtle Island (USA). I was fortunate enough to have been awarded an AMP scholarship, as a representative of Ma-ori Contemporary Dance, to explore indigenous perspectives with other cultures, thus allowing me the opportunity to travel to Santa Fe, New Mexico to work with the company in the lead up to the production.
