Chris Jannides: Wearing The BodymAPP

This interview with Chris Jannides on his PhD research, The SocioKinetic-bodymApp, an Improvisation Tool for a Dance and Movement Practice, shows how this research has informed his current work and what his aspirations are for the future.
Chris Jannides has been pivotal in the development of contemporary dance in Aotearoa New Zealand since the 1970s. His current work is taking him in exciting new directions.
Founder of Limbs dance company, which he co-directed with Mary Jane O'Reilly, founder and director of dance-in-education company Darc Swan in Australia, and later Head of Dance at Unitec, Chris had huge experience as a dancer, choreographer, teacher and director when he began a practice-as-research PhD in dance at the University of Chichester in the UK. What Chris invented in completing his PhD is a way of undoing ingrained habits - opening the potential for surprise. He is now sharing his discoveries as a Senior Movement Tutor in the Acting Department at Toi Whakaari: NZ Drama School.
