Profiling Kapa Haka and Te Matatini

A DANZ & Te Matatini Collaboration

In 2017 New Zealand's premier Māori performing arts competition, Te Matatini, took place in Hastings. Te Matatini is more than a competition, the biennial event, it’s by far the grandest assembly in Māoridom’s calendar and New Zealand’s largest performing arts spectacle.

To honour the event and celebrate kapa haka as an art-form, DANZ had the privilege of partnering with Carl Ross (Te Matatini Executive Director) and the Te Matatini team to publish a very special kapa haka resource in the DANZ Magazine (Issue No. 46). 

Featured in the lift-out are articles on what it takes to prepare for the national competition, a word from the Te Matatini Chair, kapa haka and youth, plus much more.
