DANZ and CUBA DUPA
Swan Hall Dance Zone Mar 28 - 29
DANZ in partnership with Pub Charities collaborated with the CUBA DUPA Festival.
The DANZ Dance Zone in Swan Lane was a tremendous hit with Wellington Crowds.
An estimated 1200 people took the opportunity to join workshops led by some extraordinary tutors. It was heart-warming to see so many people dancing to fantastic live music, with large crowds watching. Photo: Keane Chan
The performance and workshop programme, curated by DANZ, included:
Whitireia Performing Arts; Pump Dance Studio and Esteem Dance Crew; Cuban Fusion with Carlso Navae and his Salsa Band; Feet with Heat with the X Ray Catz; Contra Dance with Chilli Jam; Paora Taurima leading a Thriller/Poi E flash mob in collaboration with the City Gallery; Full Swing with the Richter City Rebels; Two Right Feet; Chris Jannides aka John Travolta leading a Staying Alive flash mob and Geordie Mac Keeman with the Rhythm Boys leading a Canadian Clogging workshop.
The event in Swan Lane as part of a vibrant celebration of the lively Cuba Street precinct in Wellington.
DANZ is thrilled that City Gallery came on board the Cuba Dupa DANZ stage with their Poi E / Thriller flash mob from Taika Waititi’s film Boy. Choreographer Paora Taurima reworked Dolina Wehipeihana’s original choreography from the film, with students from Whitireia Performing Arts. Photos: Mark Tantrum
