So you've got this idea. It came to you from out of the top of your own head. And it's good! At least you and your mates think so. The problem is, you don't know really know what to do with it. It's just scrawled on a mental post-it, left at the bottom of your bag. We're here to move your best-convo starters into action points toward a real production.

If you've got an amazing idea for a performance but no clear step forward, bring ‘em to us!

Ideas in Residence will support you to find the right tools for development, whatever that means for you.

Be that performance-ready, workshop-ready, or just getting it onto the page, on to the floor, No first drafts needed - just the raw idea, plain and simple. It's the stuff of dreams. Your idea will be developed over 5 months with a Mentor/dramaturg. At the end of the 5 months there will be a reading or showing of your work in progress at Basement.

In 2018 our Ideas in Residence artists were Haanz Fa'avae-Jackson, Caitlin Davey and Una Funaki who were  Mentored/dramaturged by Fasitua Amosa, Victor Rodger, Nisha Madhan and Ahi Karunaharan. From futuristic visions of the Pasifika, A musical set against the Dawn Raids and an experimental dance theatre work exploring how we view ourselves in more complex ways than we imagine others, our Idea in residence were as varied, eclectic and diverse in form, style and content.

The  Ideas in Residence initiative is available for up to three artists. In 2019 Basement will offer a stipend of $2000 per artist.

Submissions are due on Friday 14 June, 2019 at 5pm to
