Dedicated to Dance: Wellesley Studios

By Dr Marianne Schultz

Amongst the bustle of inner city architect’s offices, design spaces and the Auckland base of Les Mills gym, sits the modest entrance to Wellesley Studios. Since opening its doors in February 2014, this purpose-built ‘dance house’ has been attracting a range of dance artists, teachers, students, companies and choreographers, both domestic
and international, to its three spacious, clean and wellequipped studios. Ranging in size from the enormous 12 metre x 18 metre Studio 2, to the more intimate 9 metre x 12 metre Studio 3, Wellesley Studios can cater to many different dance styles and purposes.

Wellesley Studios is the brain-child of Katrina Todd and the home of The New Zealand Dance Company + has had many more prestigious groups among its walls.
