Collaboration of Bharathnatyam & Māori Kapa Haka performed at the India vs New Zealand 4th T20 Game

Fitting NZC's theme this season "Bringing cultures together", Natraj school of Dance, Founder and Director Mrs. Prabha Ravi, Wellington , New Zealand in collaboration with Wellington Māori Cultural Society Inc and New Zealand community of Youth Ambassadors has conceived and created the first ever fusion dance performance bringing Kapa Haka and Bharatanatyam together on one stage sharing the message of Unity in Diversity.

Performing the dance at an international sport game emphasizes the importance and art and sport in one's life and growing collaboration and mutual respect for each other. The song is composed and sung by the world renowned music composer and Oscar award winner A R Rahman for a famous Indian song " Maa Thuje Salaam" which means Salutations to Motherland.

This Fusion dance was performed just before the start of the 4th T20 game of India vs New Zealand on 31 -01-2020 @ Sky Stadium, Wellington and was a pure showcase of "Bringing cultures together" theme of the cricket series of India vs New Zealand and a great visual art expression of the New Zealand Māori and Indian cultures for this great game of cricket.

Prabha, Ravi , QSM , JP has won several awards for her contribution to Dance and ethnic communities in NZ including The Queen Services Medal by the NZ government in 2017 and the Hutt City Mayoral Civic Honour Awards for Cultural Affairs and Community Group in 2011. she was one of the judges for the popular TV3 Great NZ Dance Masala competition in 2018, the first of its kind in NZ.
