In this introduction to Butoh dance, participants will explore some of the forms and philosophies of Butoh practice, a moving meditation, in a fun and supportive environment. Butoh founder Tatsumi Hijikata described Butoh with

“Even your own arms, deep inside your body feel foreign to you, feel that they do not belong to you.”

We will explore this provocation in the workshop, experimenting with the body as empty and light, body as extending further than the skin, breath, space walking, water body movement and a jam.

The space is accessible via a lift, and the workshop is relaxed. All experiences, abilities and ages welcome.

It’s a Free/ Pay what you like event, with all proceeds going to Arts Access.
