Dancing Behind Bars

"Before starting my research as part of a Masters of Dance Studies degree at the University of Auckland I didn't know that dance in prison was a 'thing'. But that all changed following a seminar by two community dance practitioners who worked with inmates."

"I set out to learn more and, after gaining approval, began researching 'how community dance practitioners negotiate the challenges of facilitating dance classes in a prison environment'."

In this article Kristie discusses her research on dance in prisons which she presented at the 2015 Moving Communities Conference at the University of Otago.
