NZ Asia Association honoured by Human Rights Commission for Viva Eclectika

An organisation that brings people together through intercultural dance and music has been honoured with a prestigious NZ Diversity Action Award by the Human Rights Commission.

“For 15 years Viva Eclectika has been fusing Aotearoa and Asian cultural experiences through dance and music. This is a unique and incredibly beautiful way to strengthen and celebrate race relations,” said Race Relations Commissioner Dame Susan Devoy.

“Performers from ethnically diverse backgrounds working together to create a unique piece of performing art that integrates and showcase all of their cultures is a wonderful achievement.”

With hundreds of young New Zealanders taking place in Viva Eclectika over the years, this dance and diversity extravaganza promotes unity, goodwill and understanding between the peoples of Asia and Aotearoa.  NZAA Inc believes that the spirit of friendship, goodwill, understanding and unity is enhanced by encouraging people in the diversity of their respective cultural backgrounds to socialise and work together on community projects.

The NZ Diversity Action Awards are presented to selected participating New Zealand Diversity Action Programme (NZDAP) organisations in recognition of their outstanding contribution to cultural diversity and positive race relations. There are around 250 organisations who participate in the NZDAP and there were 12 awardees this year.
