Local Dancer To Teach And Perform In Turkey
Candice Frankland, Director of Phoenix Belly Dance, has been offered a formal invitation to teach and perform at a major international belly dance festival in Istanbul, Turkey.
Tarazade is a world-class Middle Eastern dance festival in Istanbul, Turkey. They offer five days of intensive dance workshops, and three gala shows, with performances by each of the invited teachers. Invitations are only extended to performers and teachers of exceptional quality, resulting in a festival attended by some of the best international artists in the Middle Eastern dance industry.
Candice Frankland of Phoenix Belly Dance, has been invited to teach at the prestigious Tarazade festival, having attended it in 2012 and receiving the 'Trained By the Stars' award. In 2010 she founded Phoenix Belly Dance, and in the five years since, has formed a multi-award winning professional troupe, and been invited to teach at local and international festivals. Candice won the 2012 NZ Corporate Event's award for Best Entertainment Company, and performed at multiple major events including the 2011 Rugby World Cup, the Sydney 2013 Latin Dance Festival, and performed in Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park for three years running. Candice’s troupe won the 2011 Jambalaya Festival Dance Competition and the Viva Eclectika 2013 Asia Vision Cup, and Candice was winner of the Bellydance Evolution International Casting Competition in 2014 (LA/Sydney). Candice choreographs works that fuse contemporary concepts with the traditional roots of belly dance to create high quality cultural entertainment.
At the Tarazade festival, Candice will be teaching the art of voi (veil poi), a speciality fusion prop. Her expertise on this topic extends all the way to the prop's construction, as she designs and crafts her own voi to create dynamic stage effects. Phoenix Belly Dance Turkey Tour
Alongside teaching at Tarazade, Candice is organising a trip to Turkey for 16 participants. The tour includes Topkapi Palace, a visit to the Gallipoli battlefield during the Centenary year, the Temple of Artemis, Cappadocia, and more. The tour has already sold out, and will take place from August 26th - September 12th. Participants include dancers and non-dancers alike, with tour options for both.
