Dec 2014: The New Zealand School of Dance was formally recognised as the Official School of the Royal New Zealand Ballet. Aug 2014: Contemporary dance students Michael Ramsay and James Wasmer secured positions with Australian Dance Theatre and Black Grace several months before completing training at the School. May 2014: Qi Huan, a leading dancer with the Royal New Zealand Ballet joined the teaching staff of the NZSD

The New Zealand School of Dance (NZSD) is recognised as one of the Southern Hemisphere's leading dance conservatoires. Established in 1967, it has become New Zealand's foremost training establishment for classical and contemporary dancers. Students train full time towards two or three year qualifications and to prepare for careers as professional dancers. The NZSD also runs Aspirational programmes for younger dancers with promise. The school has an outstanding faculty of teaching staff and regularly hosts guest tutors from around the world. Graduates have gone on to make significant contributions to the dance world, dancing with companies such as the Royal New Zealand Ballet, Sydney Dance Company, The Australian Ballet, Royal Ballet of Flanders, Black Grace, Royal Danish Ballet, English National Ballet, Footnote Dance and Australian Dance Theatre.

We offer Saturday classes in RAD Advanced 2 and contemporary for dancers considering full-time training in the next year or two. These are intended for students not currently studying full-time at the School. also offer Adult Open Ballet Classes. Intermediate Open classes are for dancers at the level of single pirouettes and short combinations. Senior Open classes are for advanced dancers, they include batterie, legs at 90°+ and multiple turns for pirouettes.
