Alec Katsourakis, Bjorn Aslund and Alessia Augello

Bjorn Aslund, is a contemporary dancer, burlesque performer and queer drag artist based in Wellington. A recent graduate from the New Zealand School of Dance, their original choreography mixes contemporary dance with drag performance.

Their new work Plato’s Atlantis will feature in the triple bill Situations in Play at the NZ Fringe at Te Whaea, Basement Theatre, 12 – 14 March. This triple bill also showcases the work of emerging choreographers and recent NZSD graduates Alessia Augello and Alec Katsourakis.

These upcoming young artists have been supported to make these new works by the Toi Pōneke Art Centre Dance Residency 2020, which is now in its fourth year supporting dance in Wellington.

Bjorn’s new work takes inspiration from the work of Alexander McQueen and Bjork. For Plato’s Atlantis, they will work with US - Kiwi operatic soprano Barbara Paterson. Together they will collaborate on an original score for the piece.

Aslund’s recent projects include, a collaboration with Cath Rogers for the show H.E.R at Potocki Paterson Art Gallery in February and coming up they will be involved with a new drag show for children.
