The Growing Professional Skills (GPS) Fund (presently closed)

As a kaitiaki/caretaker for dance in New Zealand, DANZ assumes its roles in advocacy, support and nurture of the dance industry in many ways.  The Growing Professional Skills Fund (mentoring) helps to contribute to a vibrant and thriving dance industry in New Zealand.

What is the GPS Fund?

The GPS Fund provides an opportunity for skill development in any area of professional dance. The fund is uniquely designed depending on the needs of the individual and project proposal.  The aim of the fund is to pair the successful applicant up with a mentor for an available six hours to develop skills pertaining, but not limited to:

  • Choreography
  • Business development
  • Marketing
  • Sponsorship
  • Production skills

The mentorship may take place between a mentor and an individual or a group ie. company, collective or project group.

"Dance is a collaborative art, you need other people, you need to get it out of your head. Having a mentor helps with that, they challenge, provoke, give perspective and help you articulate your voice and gain strength as an artist." - Sean MacDonald (2019 mentee)
