Touch Compass Dance Company receives a $100k fund-matching offer

An anonymous donor has made an incredible offer to Touch Compass, to donate $175,000 if they raise $100,000 no later than 1 August 2015.

While the offer was a fantastic surprise for Touch Compass, Chairperson Phil Gibson says the opportunity couldn’t have come at a better time.

“This incredibly generous offer is a wonderful challenge and clearly from someone who cares about the company and wants to see us grow. Our goal is not only to achieve $100,000 by this time next year but to build a sustainable donation base to help us reach our goals.”

As New Zealand’s only professional inclusive dance company, Touch Compass’ art form is an exploration of the human interaction, where disabled and non-disabled dancers unite.

Mr Gibson said the impact that Touch Compass has on the lives of all its dancers is profound as well as offering a chance for individuals living with disabilities the opportunity to dance and choreograph at a professional level. It also has a huge role to play in our society, seeking to challenge and change views on what dance is and who can do it – and consequently wider views around disability.

“Dancing with Touch Compass has enabled my exploration of physical diversity and further helped me crystallise my ideas of my disability by discovering my body's limitations and possibilities through dance,” says Touch Compass dancer, Tess Connell.

Mr Gibson says raising $100,000 and having it matched by the anonymous donor would be a huge opportunity, allowing Touch Compass to retain its accessible dance studio, provide direct employment opportunities to dancers and help reach into regional areas and overseas.

Touch Compass would greatly appreciate supporters’ help in achieving this important mission. Donations can be made to Touch Compass Dance Trust, ASB: 12-3022-0388572-50. Alternatively, cheques can be written out to the above and mailed to: Touch Compass Dance Company, PO Box 33 1086, Takapuna, Auckland 0740
