Get a Move On with New Zealand Dance Week

New Zealand Dance Week will take place on 23-30 April 2016. Organised by Dance Aotearoa New Zealand (DANZ), New Zealand Dance Week is a national event to celebrate and elevate the awareness of all forms of dance.

DANZ wants to invite all of New Zealand to celebrate dance in their own way and register events with DANZ to become part of a national events register, representing the diversity of dance from Cape Reinga to the Bluff.

Anton Carter, Chief Executive says, ‘We want to promote the visibility of dance and create an annual platform for all New Zealanders to become audiences, to participate and enjoy the many physical, spiritual and cultural benefits of dance.’

‘We are encouraging the dance community (professional, educational, recreational) to get involved, so we would like people to think about how they might participate in this nationwide celebration of dance. We would love for organisations, artists, studios and teachers to take part by organising an event that inspires people to get dancing,’ says Carter.

DANZ will host a launch event to open New Zealand Dance Week in Auckland on 23 April. International Dance Day on 29 April will be marked with the premiere of ‘For the Love of Dance in Aotearoa’, a digital dance work produced by DANZ that brings together a collation of amazing footage from dance lovers around the country. The finale of New Zealand Dance Week will be DANZ dance party to be held in Wellington on 30 April.

‘We have many amazing talented dancers in New Zealand that need to be recognised and this is just one way of highlighting the value of dance in our society’ says Carter.
