Kaumātua Kapa Haka - Dancing Through The Ages

"There has not always been a space for Kaumātua Kapa Haka. Their story began at the turn of this century when the Māori Queen, Te Atairangikāhu, noticing an absence of Kaumātua performers asked, 'where are our Kaumātua Kapa Haka groups?'"

In light of the Te Matatini Festival, Tanemahuta Gray looks at the history of elder Kapa Haka and its presence in society today.

With comment from elder Kapa Haka advocate and participant, Julia Dwyer, this article is an interesting exploration of our elders and their love for dance.
