Expand your choreographic repertoire and explore different creative processes in this workshop led by dance artists Ufitia Sagapolutele (formerly The Royal Family) and Ezra Williams (formerly Identity Dance Company).

This workshop is aimed at dance teachers and budding choreographers wanting to develop their choreographic expression.

With their extensive experience in dancing and choreographing for hip hop, contemporary and Pasifika dance forms, Ufitia and Ezra will lead participants through the process of creating fusion work.

The tutors will provide participants with some of their own choreographic tools and processes as well as new movement vocabulary to experiment with.

The workshop will feature a written element, so please bring something to write with and on.

Wear comfortable clothing and footwear that you can move easily in. Bring plenty of water and BYO lunch.

ABOUT THE TUTORS
Ufitia Sagapolutele is a Samoan dance artist hailing from South Auckland. Her dance career has spanned across various dance forms; from hip hop, contemporary to Siva Samoa. Ufitia started in hip hop, dancing with both The Royal Family and Identity Dance Company. From there she went on to study dance and has recently graduated with a Master of Dance Studies from the University of Auckland. Inspired by her late mother Ufitia has gone on to develop a choreographic practice which interweaves Siva, hip hop and contemporary dance. Ufitia has had works performed at the Pacific Dance Festival, Aranga Art Exhibition, Pacific Dance NZ Choreographic Lab, Auckland Art Gallery and the TEMPO Dance Festival.

Ezra Williams is an Auckland based hip hop dancer, choreographer, teacher and R&B artist (RAZÉ). Ezra pursued dance from a young age and has performed nationally and internationally. Her career as dancer includes performing with world champions Identity Dance Company, Alias Dance Crew and Dziah Dance Academy. She has also performed and choreographed for the TEMPO Dance Festival (Out of the Box & Alchemy), at Christmas in the Park, Big Gay Out, and on X-Factor New Zealand. Ezra currently teaches at The Great South Dance Academy, The Renaissance School of Dance and Waitakere City School of Dance
