Changes ahead for DANZ

DANZ’s Chief Executive Anton Carter’s three-year fixed term contract is coming to an end in early October.  The DANZ Board thanks Anton for his work during this time and wishes him all the best for his future endeavours.

“During his tenure, as well as managing DANZ’s usual busy programme of work, Anton developed strong working relationships with many dance-based organisations, arts organisations, funders, and led the DANZ team to implement a number of activities that enhanced DANZ’s support of dance and the dance community.  These included establishing NZ Dance Week, Māori Choreolab, DANZ Members Calendar, DANZ’s inaugural Honorary Member, the hosting of a National Dance Hui and other valuable contributions of which we can be justly proud,” says DANZ Board Chair Doreen Bestmann.

Rather than moving directly to recruitment, the Board is putting in place short-term transitional management arrangements to ensure continued business as usual delivery, and to take the opportunity to align the organisation with the new vision for DANZ implemented by the Board earlier this year.  During this period a deep-dive assessment of the organisation’s current operations, structure and management needs for the future will also be undertaken.

“These transitional management and review functions will be undertaken by Wellington-based Board member Sheryl Lowe, who will also serve as DANZ Executive Director over the interim period.  We envisage the review exercise will take six months, after which time the Board will be well positioned to implement our findings and ensure DANZ is best placed to service the needs of the dance community going forward,” adds Ms Bestmann.
