A week of world-class workshops, immersion courses, shows and milongas.

Welcome to the 18th year of the New Zealand Tango Festival! Registration is open!.

We are very excited to present a wonderful programme filled with international masters, performances, special guests, and a few surprises packed into every moment of the seven day programme.

The festival week starts with intensive courses run by our international masters, held in the heart of the city, within walking distance from the festival hotel, with milongas every night, and the cafe district of Wellington right outside your door.

Thursday 4th of July is the start of the main festival event, with registration open from 7:30 pm at the Comfort and Quality Hotel, and the Welcome Milonga at Te Whaea starting at 8 pm.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday are filled with workshops all day and dancing all evening. The main performances are on Friday and Saturday nights.

To consolidate your learning, your friendships and completely wear out your shoes, you need to stay on for another intensive course, after the the nights away, and melt back to your home, finally replete.

3/4 July and 8/9: 4 Intensive 2-day training courses with internationally acclaimed Argentine Tango teachers.
5 to 7 July: Over 60 different workshops divided over 3 days make up the heart of our festival
Gala events
From 4 to 7 July The festival organizes 4 social dances (Milongas), with as highlight the gala event on Saturday night.
Free events: 5 classes and 2 milongas during the weekend

Free Tango Classes
To engage the wider public and introduce them to Argentine Tango the festival also hosts an extensive program of Free Beginners Classes and Free Milongas on the weekend. To register for these classes please use the FB-event link to find a class program and contact email.


Our local tango organizers support the event by book-ending it with an additional 6 social events. This is to make sure, that the tango travellers who come here from all over the world, will find somewhere to dance every night.
For those of us who don’t dance…. Admittance to Te Whaea is free… Come and sample Argentinean food and culture, browse for shoes and clothes, come and listen to the music or simply watch the cracks at work over a cup of coffee. Hope to see you there!
