The New Zealand Dance Advancement Trust (trading as The New Zealand Dance Company (NZDC)) is seeking a Chairperson and new, additional Trustees to join our not-for-profit whose mission is to offer sustainable full-time employment to dancers in a best-practice, legacy arts organisation. This is a special opportunity to be part of a hotbed of creative collaboration, working with diverse local, national and international communities and audiences.

NZDC has built a solid reputation in New Zealand, and internationally, as a leading practitioner of Aotearoa New Zealand's unique form of contemporary dance. The board support the work of NZDC by providing strategic governance and oversight to an able and visionary team.

We welcome a broad range of applicants, but all candidates should possess the following attributes: financial literacy, a foundation of governance skills with potential to develop, and a passion for, interest or experience in the arts.

We have a specific interest in appointing individuals who have strengths in one or more of the following areas: dance and arts industry management, fundraising, HR, finance and accounting, those who are highly engaged with the Maori and Pacific Island cultural community, those who are experienced or aspiring Chairs and those with strong networks which can support NZDC's work.

  • The role of Chairperson and Trustee is a voluntary position, with an initial appointment period of two years.
  • NZDC offices and the studio are located, and board meetings are held, in central Auckland, however applications are welcome from a diverse geographic community. Support with transport costs to meetings may be available where necessary.
  • A commitment of six in-person two-hour meetings, approximately four on-line meetings and a minimum of five hours per month in support reading and activity is required.
