DANZ Welcomes New Chief Executive

28/09/2015

Anton Carter has been appointed to the role of Chief Executive of Dance Aotearoa New Zealand (DANZ) and will commence duties on Monday 5 October 2015.

Anton has a deep knowledge of the New Zealand arts sector and experience of managing a small community organisation with limited resources (Pacific Underground), through to implementing a major education strategy for the Ministry of Education (Pasifika Education Plan). He brings a wide range of skills necessary for this important role, and considerable experience working within the Arts sector, both as a Performing Arts Practitioner and Arts Manager. Having previously worked for Creative New Zealand, Anton has in-depth knowledge and well established networks within the arts scene, and within other Government Sectors.

Having secured new 3 year contract with Creative New Zealand at Totara level to deliver dance services to the NZ dance industry (2015-2017), late last year DANZ Board and staff have been working on the development of a new strategic plan, vision and direction for DANZ. This will focus on the strengthening of existing partnerships and forging new relationships to work together with the sector to create vibrant and thriving dance in Aotearoa.

"DANZ plays such a unique role and has a long and rich history of advocating and supporting dance in New Zealand. I want to see DANZ reach new heights and be a vessel for great things.  I look forward to the challenge of the Chief Executive role and am excited by the opportunity to lead one of New Zealand’s premier arts service organisations. It will be a real privilege to have an opportunity to be a leader on the waka" says Anton.

"The Board welcomes Anton to the team and looks forward to working with him to continue the excellent work done by Management and staff of DANZ and build on the secure base that has been developed" says Dr Beverley Edlin, DANZ Board Chair.
