The New Zealand Dance Company (NZDC) seeks exceptional candidates for the role of Marketing and Development Manager for October 2020 and beyond.
We are a vibrant arts company funded by Creative New Zealand, Foundation North, Auckland Council and various trusts and foundations. We are committed to creating a sustainable, permanent, high-calibre dance company, with an Auckland home that contributes to the fabric of New Zealand culture and is dedicated to nurturing New Zealand’s finest contemporary dance practitioners.
We have a very successful history in the time since we were first established by Shona McCullagh and Frances Turner in 2011 and are now embarking on our next chapter under the leadership of Co-Artistic Directors Tor Colombus and James O’Hara and Executive Creative Director Janine Dijkmeijer. We are a small, but mighty group with a vision of the future in these uncertain times that is simultaneously idealistic and realistic. The nature of the environment in which we exist demands a level of balanced excellence in all that we do. This is as true off stage as it is on, and the Marketing and Development Manager is a key part of our team.
The primary purpose of the role is to contribute to the realisation of the Company’s vision and strategic plan by leading in the areas of marketing and development. The secondary purpose of this role is to manage and mentor the Company Administrator as well as any assigned interns and PR contractors or consultant contractors.
You will report to and be supported in your role by an experienced Executive Creative Director and collaborate with the co-Artistic Directors, Artistic Manager, Creative Producer, Dance Education Coordinator and Finance Manager.
Who do we envisage attracting to the role?
We anticipate that you will bring enthusiasm and excitement to a role that is key to NZDC’s success. A strong writer/editor is crucial alongside being organised, a critical thinker, detail oriented and creative. A positive attitude with a solution focused demeanor is also helpful to being successful in the role. Ideally, you would have 3-5 years’ experience in marketing and/or fundraising, particularly with campaign planning/digital content creation and/or grant writing. A background in brand management and/or relationship management would be attractive as well.
We would love you to bring a passion and knowledge for the performing arts, and experience or appreciation of contemporary dance in particular – a form that is distinguished by its constantly evolving, innovative and embracing nature of movement reflecting the “now”.
This is an exciting opportunity to help take an ambitious New Zealand arts company into its next chapter. We want to be loved locally and internationally admired. We have a really exciting team of people here and we’re looking for someone to join with us in the grand adventure we’re undertaking. You will enjoy our collaborative and professional environment and contribute to our collective achievements.
What are we offering?
We have a friendly and flexible work environment in the CBD in an area that is exceptionally well served by public transport. Our administrative home is a recently refurbished space with specialist dance studios, where we are the anchor tenant. You will become part of the performing arts world with us in this full-time employment position. In the current and ever-changing times, some remote work is possible, alongside a regular pattern of attendance at our offices for meetings and collaborative activity.
Feel free to call me - Greg Innes, General Manager - about the role if you would like. I can be contacted on +64 21 279 0529 during business hours.
