Kapa Haka (Kōrari), Contemporary Maori Dance
Contemporary Maori Dance combines traditional Maori martial arts with contemporary dance.
Students will be introduced to Korari (flax stem) contemporary Maori movement developed by Tanemahuta Gray, they will gain an understanding of traditional forms of Kapa Haka while learning te reo Maori vocabulary and contemporary dance movement.
Utilising contemporary dance as a stimuli students will explore, create and extend their own movement expressions using the korari to develop choreography.
